Do you know what is great about you?

Do you know what is great about you?

One of the most important things in life is to know what is great about you.

Yes, I am talking to you.

Everybody has something great about them. But we often have such a burning desire to be something other than what we are, that we miss what is great, unique and special about who we currently are.

To know what is great about you means coming close to yourself, making friends with who you actually are.
You have passion about certain things in life. There are things that make your heart sing.

You have skills. These may be practical skills, or skills around thinking or relating to other people.

You also have your unique life experience. This includes everything you have learnt from the good things of life and everything you have learnt from the tragedies, sufferings and difficulties of your life.

Your passion, your skills and your life history are a unique combination. You are the only one of you.

So why not take some quiet time for an hour – we could call it “an hour retreat”, in a comfortable, calm place and think about these things.

Here are some questions that might help:

Passion
What makes your heart sing?
What will be important to you for the rest of your life, and why?
What activity brings a sense of wellbeing to you, and why?

Strengths
What do you love doing?
What do you know you are good at?
What abilities are you confident about?

Your unique history
What are the great things that have happened in your life?
What did you learn from these experiences?
What are the sufferings, tragedies and difficult things that have happened in your life?
What did you learn from these experiences?

When you put your passion, strengths and history together, what sort of person are you?
What is the light that you shine?
What is the interest of your vulnerable heart?
How is it to be human, for you?

… and how is all of this a gift to the world?

If you feel like writing to someone with your answer to these questions, I would be interested to read them. I cannot guarantee that I will reply, but the chances are that I will at least send a “thank-you”. Your answers are interesting to me because, in the limited form of an email, I will meet you. Also, your answers will help me improve my questions.

All the best to you in giving your gift to the world
